Christa Dixon Memorial Chapel
Grace Presbyterian Village
Dallas, Texas
+ General construction
+ Negotiated contract
+ Occupied facility
This project was part of a larger phased renovation of the commons and dining facility at a senior living community. The chapel was built to honor the late mother and Presbyterian minister of the past CEO of Presbyterian Communities and Services. The chapel was designed by renowned architect and professor Richard Economakis.
The design involved custom millwork trim and paneling that was installed, prepped, and field painted. The work also involved an addition to the existing building.
The stained glass in the chapel was donated by the First Presbyterian Church of Waco. It was in their old building in downtown Waco, Texas. Olicon salvaged all of the stained glass from the church and replaced the window units with insulated opaque glass, in custom-built frames.
After removal, the stained glass was crated by Olicon and sent to be cleaned and refurbished. Olicon designed the operable frames for the stained glass panels, which represented the twelve Apostles of Christ. The panels are back-lit to enhance the artistic design of this antique stained glass.
The remainder of the stained glass was stored and is now incorporated at the new chapel on the campus of Presbyterian Village North in Dallas, Texas.
